Rega P25 Motor Servicing and Isolation Tweak

(1/1)

migkiller1971:

I used Herbie Audio Dampening sheets. My motor is as isolated as it can be, while still being hard mounted. Was very careful not to tighten the bolt too tight. just enough to get the full benefits of the dampening sheets.

I also figured out why my Rega ran fast. Its due to the lack of tension of the belts. Here are the results using the iRPM app.

1. Rega White belt - 34.5
2. Oa 13.2 Belt from Turntbale basics - 34.1
3. For the third test. I had some wide thick rubber bands that I put over the diameter of the Subplatter and with the Oa Belt. Its around 33.3 . Perfect.

Wish there was a way to adjust the motor to move it back some.  :(

I have another belt coming in this week which cost $9.50 shipped.

For those of us that have P25. I put the original pulley back and Got a perfect 33.3 from the belt I purchased from Turntablebasics.com. I will try to purchased another soon.

Great video - very informative and helpful.

After watching your video, it got me motivated and I plan on doing the same thing to my P25.  :)

One question: What thickness did you get for the Herbie's Audio dampening sheet?

Are you going to stick with the twin belt system and use two OA 13.2 belts?

I got the .8mm Herbie audio dampening sheet. I wanted the ability to change the height of the motor in increments. Right now I have three gaskets so you can guess the thickness. I also have Herbie dots under the top bolts. I just punched a hole in them. I went back to my original pulley with my groovetracer ref. subplatter and I get a 33.3 with the oa 13.2 belt from Turntablebasic.com. I bought a Russell Maunfacturing belt and it ran at 33.8. Here are my new findings and test.

ML dual Pulley + White rega belt =34.5
ML Dual Pulley + Oa 13.2 = 34.1
Original Pulley + White rega belt = 33.8
Original Pulley + Russell belt oa 13.2 = 33.8
Original Pulley + TB OA 13.2 = 33.3

I have another belt coming in from Turntablebasics.com, so I'll report back.
