Title: A disappearing market on eBay?
Post by: BSD2000 on November 18, 2012, 06:47:22 AM
I was just browsing eBay and it seems like the number of items listed went down drastically in the last few months. It also seems like many sellers simply stopped selling, or haven't listed items for months. What's going on?  ???

For example, take a look at the 'Record Players/Turntables' category - there are only 3,922 items listed. A few months ago, that number was more like 35,000 or more. What happened? Where are all the listings for old Technics and Denon turntables? It seems like the market is drying up. Is the supply down - or the demand? Did eBay increase the fees again to a point where people find it cost prohibitive to list it?

But it doesn't end there. Audiogon is going through a similar phase. There use to be pages and pages of Rega turntables and accessories available on there. Now, you're lucky to get a single page of results. Is it the economy? Is the new Audiogon webpage format turning people off to the site?

Is it just me, or do you notice a change too?

I rarely visit eBay and Audiogon, so I can only speculate that it must be somethingh that has to do with those site, otherwise the decrease in the offer would have been less pronounced, if it was a mere economic factor.
