Went to see Eric Johnson on 8/14

(1/1)

BSD2000:
I went to see Eric Johnson at the Sellersville Theater in PA last Sunday. It was a fantastic concert! I managed to snag the last signed vinyl copy of his new LP - 'Up Close'.

Enjoy!

KenB:
How did he sound in there?  It's a narrow deep venue.  The one show I saw there sounded really good.

It sounded fantastic. There was a warm up band that played first - Moreland and Arbuckle from Kansas.   http://www.morelandarbuckle.com/
I couldn't believe how good they sounded for just a 3 piece band: drums, guitar and harmonica. My nephew picked up 3 of their CD's and managed to get one signed by the guitar player.

Eric Johnson had a late start and someone mentioned on a forum the day after that he wasn't feeling good that night. Still, he poured his heart and soul into his playing that night. He started off with two acoustic songs, then played some cover songs and a good mix of new and old from his albums. He ended the show with a cover of Hendrix 'Are You Experienced?' that was mind blowing.

We waiting outside next to his motor home, hoping he would come out and chat, maybe sign our tickets, but door man told us 'it's not going to happen tonight guys', so we left.

Even sitting in the last row, the sound quality was great. I thought the first bands drum set sounded better then EJ's drummer. Not so much that the drummer was better, but that the drums he used sounded better. EJ's drummer used a Gretsch drum set, but the snare sounded a bit thin compared to the first act's snare, which sounded great.

My nephew brought his Zoom recorder, but he didn't manage to successfully turn it on during intermission, so we didn't get a recording of the show. They were really strict about flash photography, and I'm sure if they seen us holding a recorder up, they would have had a fit.

I had a great time and I hope EJ comes back to the Sellersville Theater again.
