Title: Ebay pickups
Post by: BSD2000 on September 09, 2011, 06:43:18 AM
I won two records yesterday on Ebay.

The first one is a rare German pressing of Joe Satriani's 'Extremist' on Relativity records, released in 1992. This is a very rare LP and hard to find since it was released at the time when vinyl was considered a 'dead' format with CD's taking over. I believe it was one of the last Satriani album released on vinyl.

The second is an original pressing of Eric Johnson's 'Ah Via Musicom'. It's a promo copy (hole punched) and still sealed. I have the Friday Music reissue and it will be interesting to compare a pristine copy of the the original pressing with the modern reissue. I'm betting the original will sound better.  ;)

I'm watching a couple copies of Pink Floyd's DSOTM on MFSL and a copy of Rush's 'Roll The Bones'. My copy of 'Roll The Bones' is a Brazilian copy in very poor shape.

I received the sealed copy of Eric Johnson 'Ah Via Musicom' yesterday and opened it up to have a listen. It's an original 1990 promo copy. Just from the few minutes I spent comparing it to the Friday Music reissue, the original pressing sounds better. I'll post some samples later today when I get a chance.

Nice!

I picked up a copy of the Blues Brothers movie soundtrack for $3 from Ebay. It's a great classic movie with good blues music. The vinyl was mint and the sound quality is very good. The horns have a nice edge and bite to them. The only song missing from it is John Lee Hooker's 'Boom Boom', which is a major disappointment, I really like the version he does for the movie.  :(

This week some time I'm heading to my local record store, see what I can dig up. It's been over a month since I was there - I'm bound to find a ton of cool stuff.  :D

I picked up two Steve Hillage albums - 'Open' and 'Fish Rising'. I love the mix of progressive, psychedelic guitar playing with spacey keyboards. :)
