Title: More Zyx Omega G samples
Post by: BSD2000 on September 02, 2011, 09:07:33 AM
Kraftwerk - 'Radioactivity' live from the Minimum-Maximum 4 LP box set.

Manheim Steamroller - 'G Major Tocatta' from Fresh Aire IV.

Brand X - 'Nuclear Burn'

Simon and Garfunkel - 'Cecilia' from the CBS 1/2 speed mastered sample LP.

So far, I have about 2 hours on the cartridge. I have a long way to go for the break in process to be complete, at least 50 or more hours. If it's like my old Zyx, it will be a roller coaster ride of ups and downs as the sound characteristics change.

A few more samples:

Steely Dan - 'Black Cow' - MFSL: If you listen closely, you can hear a drop out of the source tape right after he sings - "I saw you at Rudy's, you were very high - YOU..." at the :30 second mark:

Donald Fagen - 'Springtime'

Billy Idol - 'Prodigal Son'

I put another hour on it last night bringing the total time up to 3 hours so far.

Alright.  Now you're just showing off! ;D
As many times as I've heard recordings of Brand X performing Nuclear Burn, I've never heard it sound like that.  Apparently there is a lot more going on in the recording than I had heard before.
Steely Dans' - Black Cow sound excellent too.  The bass is so punchy but not so much that their voices are overrun and lost in the back of the soundstage.  The sound of your clip reveals the recording room very nicely as well.

These are compressed MP3 samples too, the original 96K/24bit files sound even better! Hearing it live is still the best though.   ;)

Bass is one thing the Omega excels at. If the break-in is anything like my last Zyx, the bass will improve even more. The R100H was very 'ethereal' sounding during the break-in. After 60 hours or so, the bass filled out and got deeper. The Omega G already has tons of deep, clean bass. What's it going to be like after it breaks in?  :o
